Should Struggling Students get 2nd Chances? - Episode 078
Can Second Chances be too Many?
Do failing students deserve another chance? Many parents wonder about the number of second chances their kids deserve. When it comes to their kids’ education, and school work specifically, the question is “Why does a kid need a second, third, fourth, fifth or tenth chance?”
From my experience, having strict policies with little consideration to a student who is trying to correct their behavior leads to “why bother.”
But what exactly are second chances? Is it an opportunity to turn in assignments at the last minute? Are we coddling students when we give them extra credit? Do second changes help or hurt student growth?
In this episode of School Counselor Gone Rogue, we address:
Should schools and teachers put a cap on second chances?

Steps to help you support your struggling teen or tween
Before we go further into this discussion, I’d like to recommend the Test Prep Roadmap. It’s a free resource which I offer to parents and educators to help them and their kids plan and strategize for tests even if they’ve waited till the last minute.
I know that finals, midterms or other kinds of tests are around the corner. So visit my Test Prep Roadmap page to grab your copy now.
And feel free to share your thoughts on second chances for students.

Marni Pasch| Host of School Counselor Gone Rogue| Academic Coach | Team Pasch Academic Coaching
I work with students in grades 6th and higher, who struggle with academic confidence and motivation. I help them survive school with less stress by helping them create concrete goals, tackle procrastination and learn creative study techniques. I empower students to take charge of their education and reach their goals. I do this through individual or group coaching so students achieve success in life, school, career readiness and their social endeavors. I provided in person academic coaching in Orlando, FL, but work with students across the country through Zoom!
